Lopholaimus antarcticus
The beautiful Topknot Pigeon is believed to have been the first species of bird shot in Australia. The birds were shot by members of Captain Cook's crew seeking fresh food when the Endeavour was laid up at the present site of Cooktown in North Queensland.*
